Turning the round top tightens the clamp onto the vent louvers. It's easy and will most likely work with almost any vent type. But, if you've got one of those vents with the stupid guiding knob in the middle, and the knob sticks out more than 3/4 inch, then this one may not work for you. The problem: the knob on your vent will get in the way and your phone/gps won't be able to reach the magnet. They do provide a slightly larger metal button for your phone but even so it may be a stretch.Other than that, hats off to the person who came up with this design.
